Man Utd are keen on signing Ajax star Donny van de Beek, reports the Evening Standard.

United are said to be in the market for a midfielder to replace wantaway veteran Nemanja Matic and other underperforming players. The Serbian has been out-of-favour since the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who prefers younger options.

Meanwhile, Andreas Pereira seems to forget he’s a professional footballer unless it’s a preseason game. Scott McTominay is a wonderful prospect for the Red Devils but lacks the creativity his side need, especially in Paul Pogba’s absence. Fred, on the other hand, has improved drastically from his debut season and seems to have settled in.

However, it is very clear that there is no real playmaker at Old Trafford and relying on Jesse Lingard may not be the wisest option. With Pogba’s future up in the air, the situation only gets worse.

Which is exactly why Solskjaer’s side are interested in the Dutchman who’s £50 million valuation is said to be within the limit of what’s acceptable. The box-to-box midfielder has a creative flair and an eye for goal the English giants are looking for. The Norwegian is reportedly desperate to sign a pair of midfielders before the start of next season.

With Ajax having been eliminated from the Champions League, keeping hold of the youngster may be a tough job to manage. But £50 million is also a very tempting price tag.

On the other hand, the Old Trafford outfit seem to have given up on their pursuit of Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff. It is said that the men at United’s helm are not fully convinced by him.
