Solskjaer: Bruno Fernandes Is A Mix Between Scholes And Veron
New arrival Bruno Fernandes has been quick to impress since his move to United with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer likening him to Paul Scholes and Juan Sebastian Veron.
The Portuguese international registered his first goal alongside an assist against Watford on Sunday, earning the Man of the Match award. Fernandes converted a penalty that he won – albeit controversially – with ease to open his goal scoring account. The midfielder has bagged 3 goal contributions in last two league games for United.
The former Sporting man has brought a direct attacking drive with him along with creativity, which could be why he’s being compared to Scholes yet again after Jaap Stam did a few days ago.
“He felt like a presence in the group from the first minute, a bit of a mix between Scholes and Veron – the temperament of Veron and a lot of the quality of Scholesy,” said Solskjaer (via BBC).
Clearly, the midfielder’s arrival has been positive for the Mancunians’ struggling attack and according to the boss, the price tag was well worth it the output.
“The fans are used to players with that personality, mentality and quality,” he added. “We have got the number 10 position nailed down now. He is a big piece of what we are trying to put together.
“In today’s market, I think we got a good deal. He has given everyone a boost.”
Paul Pogba’s absence has been felt heavily at Old Trafford and Scott McTominay following him off the pitch with his own injury certainly has made the situation worse. All things considered, it makes sense why the English giants decided to splash their cash on the ex-Sampdoria man the moment they got a chance.
