Putting to display a brilliant volley on a rainy night, Anthony Martial latched onto a clever assist from Bruno Fernandes to present Man Utd with a lead in their much-awaited clash against arch-rivals Man City.

The Citizens took quite a blow, returning home with zero points from the derby, having a lot to reflect upon given the number of errors they made during the entirety of the match.

Martial has been performing phenomenally well for the Red Devils, scoring regularly ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer started deploying him through the middle in the offensive line.

Moreover, with the addition of Bruno Fernandes in the squad, the talented forward has upped his game to another level.

The United No.9 was replaced by Odion Ighalo towards the end of the eventful fixture, and the Nigerian remained a threat in the front holding the ball up well. The 30-year-old also had involvement in Scott McTominay’s surprising late goal which updated the Red Devils’ score to two goals.

Accordingly, Roy Keane believes the Shanghai Shenhua star’s existence at Old Trafford has provided the Frenchman with the appropriate type of competition he required.

Following the final whistle, Keane spoke on Sky Sports: “You’ve had a reaction as well from Martial. Sometimes a new striker comes in, you praise the new striker, but then that pushes the other lads.

“There’s almost been a reaction from Martial, thinking: ‘Oh, I’ve got another player to fight with for my position’. And there’s been a good reaction.”

Being on a loan from the Chinese club however, the Nigeria international’s current contract at United is set to expire by the end of this season. But if the 30-year-old continues to showcase his experience and talent it wouldn’t surprise many if Solskjaer decides to sign him on a permanent basis.
