One of the two successful winter additions this year for Manchester United , Odion Ighalo, had showcased appreciable performances in the few matches he was able to appear before the Premier League got suspended owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nevertheless, having arrived at Old Trafford on a loan deal from Shanghai Shenhua, Ighalo’s contract is set to expire on Sunday and talks between the Red Devils and the Chinese side were leading nowhere following Shanghai’s rejection of the extension deal offered by United a few days ago.

The Nigerian striker has reportedly requested the officials of the Chinese side to let him finish the season at Old Trafford prior to returning to his parent club.

Shanghai initially indicated that they would only consider to extend the loan deal if United were interested in buying him and it would likely cost around £20m.

But according to Sky Sports, the Chinese side are now open to a loan extension till January and consequently they expect Ighalo to sign a new contract with them as a condition of this permission to let him continue his spell at Old Trafford.

In the eight appearances he made for the English side, the 30-year-old showcased great consistency in front of goal, registering four goals to his name.

Considering those aspects, it’s understandable why United are desperate to keep the forward available at their disposal till the culmination of the suspended season.
