Two Man Utd Players Have Scored 20 Goals For The First Time Since 2010/11 Season
Manchester United are in a bit of a goal-scoring storm these days. The attacking flair that Ole Gunnar Solskjær was expected to bring to the outfit has finally flourished into regularity as the side continues to find the back of the net on a continuous basis.
Following on the back of that memorable five-goal flurry during his first-ever game in charge, Solskjær’s United have now bettered another long-kept tally.
During their Premier League home game against AFC Bournemouth, both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford found the back of the net. This took their personal tallies to 20 goals each. If that sounds like its been quite a while since those numbers have featured at United, it is indeed correct.
This is the first time that two Manchester United players have found 20 goals in a single full season since 2010/2011. This tally matches that from nearly a decade ago between Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez who scored 21 and 20 goals each respectively at the end of that campaign.
With a potential 12 games left to play for United this season, there is no reason why they can’t hope to better those numbers by the end of this unprecedented campaign.
In the case of Martial, this flurry is a result of recent great form, most notably via the hattrick against Sheffield United at Old Trafford. For Rashford, most of the hard work was done pre-lockdown and pre-injury and the penalty kick on Saturday finally brought the tally to a close.
These are career-best numbers for both forwards and come in a season when they each faced injury concerns of their own. As such, one can leave to the imagination as to what would have occurred had the duo been fit throughout the campaign and what havoc they can potentially wreak from next season.
