Alex Telles Hopeful Of Joining Manchester United This Week
Manchester United’s negotiations for a new left-back are in advanced stages.
The Premier League did not get off to a great start for the Red Devils, who suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace. The lacklustre performance underlined just how vital it is for Ed Woodward and company to invest in the summer transfer window.
Donny van de Beek has been their sole acquisition so far, with the Jadon Sancho saga stuck in perpetual limbo while potential deals for Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale were put to an end by Tottenham Hotspur.
It is the Reguilon interest, in particular, that bears a closer look as United are clearly in the market for a left-back. In that regard, they are making swift progress on another front.
According to the Guardian, Manchester United are in the advanced stages of negotiation over the transfer of Alex Telles. The 27-year-old Brazilian has rapidly emerged onto the club’s radar.
According to the source, the player himself is hopeful of sealing a move to Old Trafford from Porto. Incidentally, a price for the full-back hasn’t been agreed to by both the clubs, with the Red Devils reportedly trying to drive the fee down to €25 million. It is understood that the Premier League side won’t pay more than that sum.
The left-back is believed to have a release clause of €40 million but United’s intent on lowering that figure is due to the Brazilian international being in his final year of contract at the Estádio do Dragão.
Further, the same report adds that Telles is slated to earn around £75,000-a-week at the Theatre of Dreams. He is expected to give staunch competition to the injury-prone Luke Shaw and the young Brandon Williams.
However, will this deal materialize successfully or is a late twist waiting at the end?
