The Potters are in search of a reliable player going forward, as their main front man Marko Arnautovic looks set to join Premier League rivals, West Ham United.
And Stoke boss Mark Hughes sees the Englishman as the ideal replacement for the outgoing Austrian.
It is noteworthy that Young was offered a lucrative deal by Chinese outfit Shandong Luneng in the winter transfer window, but Jose Mourinho was reluctant to let go of the versatile wideman. However, that was because the Red Devils were to make a deep run in the Europa League.
Now, things are of course different. Manchester United have upped the ante in their pursuit of Croatian winger Ivan Perisic from Inter, and if the deal goes through, it could send Young way down the pecking order.
Although Mourinho is a big fan of the former England international, and still values hiss experience, Young was limited to only 12 Premier League appearances last season.
This particular move makes sense for all the parties, as Young could potentially bolster Mark Hughes’s side, and United can cash in some precious transfer money, which they can later use in their pursuit of Ivan Perisic.
Ashley Young is currently with the reigning Europa League champions in the US as part of their pre-season, but he hasn’t played a game, as he continues to recover from his injury.
While he is one of the longest serving players at the Red Devils’ disposal right now, the possibility of this particular transfer going through seems highly likely.
