Manchester United’s transfer pursuits have been helter-skelter so far this summer. However, heading into the final week of the window, the Red Devils seem set on retaining their groove and are slated to make multiple big signings.

The player who has proven most elusive is Harry Maguire. The English centre-back also happens to be the prime candidate for a position that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and company are most eager to fill at Old Trafford.

In the middle of July, it was widely reported that both the clubs had agreed to a deal for Maguire but nothing developed from those murmurs.

Now, however, some solid claims have emerged about the saga.

TalkSport have reported that Manchester United have tabled an official bid for Harry Maguire. The deal in question is believed to be worth £80 million and United have stressed that it is of a ‘take it or leave it’ nature.

Leicester City have until Monday to make a decision on the transfer or else the negotiations are off the table.

This is a massive development as United’s earlier bid was rejected for being too low. This amount certainly matches the one that the Foxes were reportedly eager for, given that they do not wish to sell the 26-year-old who also has a few years left on his contract.

If it goes through, Maguire will become the most expensive defender in the world-football, as the fee would eclipse the £75 million that Liverpool paid for Virgil Van Dijk early in 2018.

United still have plenty of work left in the market. Romelu Lukaku’s alleged exit has paved the way for Paulo Dybala to possibly join Old Trafford and the finer details of that move are being worked out.

The Bruno Fernandes saga is another one that remains pending although earlier in the week United were understood to have had it in the bag.
