Bayern Munich Chief: Alonso to Liverpool Rumours ‘Wrong’
Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has dismissed speculation linking Xabi Alonso with a return to Liverpool.
The Spaniard is in the final year of his contract at the Allianz Arena, and although a renewal has not yet been formalised, Rummenigge is confident the former Liverpool midfielder will extend his stay.
“Recently, I had a talk with Xabi. He feels very good at Bayern Munich and in the city of Munich too,” the 60-year-old told Sport Bild.
“He signalled to me he is interested in staying in Munich. Rumours he would plan to leave are wrong.”
While the 34-year-old Spanish midfielder admits no decision has been made regarding his future, early signs suggest he will remain with the Bundesliga champions.
“I have not made a decision yet, neither for Bayern nor against,” Alonso added. “Even concerning the end of my career I have not set a limit.
“I am pleased about the positive signals. I am happy to be at the club.
“I can feel the respect, this is important. Now we will see what happens.”
Alonso remains a popular figure in Merseyside, where he spent five seasons and won both the FA Cup and the Champions League.
Really great!
