Arsene Wenger Admits He Prevented Mathieu Debuchy’s Loan Move

French international Mathieu Debuchy was recently seen admitting that he was “annoyed” with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger for blocking a potential loan move to Manchester United in January.

“Yes, at the end of the transfer window they [United] came in,” Debuchy told French Canal Plus.

“They contacted my agents.

“I was disappointed, obviously. If I had the chance to go to Manchester United it would have been magnificent.

“Unfortunately it wasn’t the case. I discussed it with the coach too, who said that obviously he couldn’t help out a rival.”

And now Arsenal manager has confirmed that he prevented Debuchy from joining Manchester United on loan.

‘I hope that’s not surprising to you,’ Wenger said of his decision.

‘It’s true. I stand up for that. There was nothing shocking in that.

‘If Man United wants to buy a player‚ you loan players out to clubs who do not have the resources but not to direct opponents.

‘I was surprised, yes [that United tried]. I can understand it but I found it logical [to block the loan].’
