Jamie Carragher Slams Juan Mata After Getting Sent Off Against West Brom
Juan Mata was booked twice after some foolish acts against West Brom, which resulted in a 1-0 loss for his side on Sunday afternoon. The former defender-turned-pundit Jamie Carragher was quick to criticize the Spaniard.
The 27-year-old, who had been the hero in midweek against Watford when he scored an important winner, became the major cause of Manchester United’s loss against West Brom today.
The Spanish international was sent off in the 26th minute at The Hawthorns after getting booked twice within three minutes.
Sebastien Pocognoli’s left-wing cross was converted into the only goal of the game by Salomon Rondon in the 66th minute.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher said: “It maybe wasn’t a great decision for [Chris] Smalling to step out but [Matteo] Darmian has his back to the ball. He should fill in as Smalling goes out. He’s so obsessed with (Stephane) Sessegnon. He should clear, and maybe Daley Blind should be tighter to the ball, but he’s not watching the ball!
“It’s stupid [from Mata] and you don’t normally expect that from him. I can’t think what he thinks. He’s always going to get a yellow card [for blocking the quick free-kick]. It’s so unlike him.
“He knows with the second one. He’s trying to pull his leg away as he’s halfway through it. You can’t help but like Juan Mata.”

I've seen lazy challenges, dumb challenges, and dirty challenges. I've never before seen a challenge that maxed out all three.
Juan Mata.

What a stupid red card that was from Juan Mata. Both yellows completely unnecessary.
