Manchester United Complete Signing of Versatile Defender
Manchester United have completed the signing of former New York Red Bulls’ 18-year-old defender Matthew Olosunde.
The club’s official website announced: “Matthew Olosunde has completed a move to Manchester United. The defender signed for the club on 29 January but his arrival has only been announced now that international clearance has been received for the young American.”
Olosunde quit New York Red Bulls to go to college, and was named as one of Duke University’s six new recruits for the upcoming season.
Duke’s head coach John Kerr had very positive words for the 6ft 1in right-back-cum-centre-half.
“Matthew is a fantastic player who is comfortable playing in the back or in midfield,” Kerr said.
“He has wicked pace and has incredible defensive recovery speed. He has great one vs one instincts on both sides of the ball and will help us right away in a number of positions.”
Olosunde has been included in tonight’s Under-18 squad to face Brighton & Hove Albion, according to the club’s official statement.
