Everton Rejected The Chance To Sign Saul Niguez, Claims Guillem Balague

Everton and Manchester United turned down the chance to sign Atletico Madrid starlet Saul Niguez, according to Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.

Saul Niguez has been one of Atletico Madrid’s best performers this season. The 21-year-old has scored 4 goals and bagged 2 assists in the La Liga this season.

The Spaniard has also managed to score thrice and assist twice in the UEFA Champions League, with his latest goal being a fantastic solo goal against German giants Bayern Munich, which gave Atletico a 1-0 lead in the first leg of the semi-finals.

Saul’s top-drawer performances have caught interest of numerous top European clubs, and the midfielder has been repeatedly linked with a move to Manchester United in recent months.

However, thanks to Guillem Balague, new information has come to light suggesting that Manchester United already had a chance to sign the highly-rated midfielder, but the Old Trafford club decided to turn it down.

Speaking to the La Liga Weekly Podcast, Balague revealed: “Saul was offered to Everton when he was 18, and they said no, and he was offered to Manchester United a year-and-a-half ago and United decided not to go for him.”

Looking at Niguez’ recent development, the Red Devils as well as the Toffees may surely come to rue their decision of turning down the youngster.
