Sturridge Posts Video About The Drug Test Following Victory Over Villareal
Daniel Sturridge was Liverpool’s hero in their 3-0 win over Villareal last night, as his goal and assist were crucial in sending the Reds into the Europa League final.
Manager Jurgen Klopp handed Sturridge a start after having previously overlooked him in the first leg of the semi-final, and the English forward rewarded his boss by scoring the second goal of the game and assisting the third for Adam Lallana in the final minutes.
Klopp hailed Sturridge’s performance on the night by stating: “Daniel had a great game. When he is fit he is an unbelievable player. He was outstanding for us but even he needs the other players alongside him to play well too. That is what happened tonight, the performance exceeded all my expectations.”
However, unfortunately for Sturridge, the striker apparently missed all the celebrations in the Liverpool dressing room after their huge win, as he was subjected to a post-match drug test. The 26-year-old returned from the test to an empty dressing room, and expressed his disappointment in this humourous self-made video he posted on his Instagram account.
Sturridge may have missed the post-match celebrations, but he’ll still be surely thrilled to have helped his team advance to the Europa League final, in which they will face the two-time winners (in consecutive seasons) Sevilla in Basel. This will be the Merseyside giants’ second cup final of the season, and a victory in this one will directly send the Reds to the Champions League next season.
