Former Middlesborough and Egyptian international striker Mido has revealed how he almost killed Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
This incident took place in 2003, when both Ibrahimovic and Mido were playing for Ajax in the Eredivisie. Ajax had just lost to hated rivals PSV Eindhoven.
Mido was on the bench, and he wasn’t pleased to miss out on an important game against Ajax’s fierce rivals. After coming on, Mido refused to pass the ball to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, leaving the Swede visibly displeased.
According to Ibrahimovic’s autobiography titled ‘I am Zlatan Ibrahimovic’, Mido stormed into the Ajax dressing room after the match and called the players miserable cu**s.
The new Manchester United signing then replied by saying “If anybody was a c**t it was Mido”. Mido didn’t take this kindly, and he flung the scissors he was using to cut the wrapping around his ankles towards Ibrahimovic.

The scissors narrowly missed Ibrahimovic’s head and hit the concrete wall behind him and cracked it. Ten minutes later, Mido said he went to the shower and spotted Ibrahimovic in the jacuzzi. “We just looked at each other and started laughing. I said to Zlatan: ‘You know that I almost killed you?’And he said: ‘Yeah, I know.'”
As a result of this conflict, Mido was loaned out to Spanish side Celta Vigo by the then Ajax and current Everton boss Ronald Koeman. After a short spell at Celta Vigo, he was finally sold to Ligue 1 club Marseille.
After a long time, Mido has finally revealed his side of the incident. He said “You don’t understand how people were following me back in Egypt. I was the only player from there playing at the top level.
“So people were waiting for the Ajax game. They would say: ‘Ajax will play today, so we have to sit and watch Mido.’
“All the coffee shops, the restaurants — everywhere was just waiting for the Ajax game.”
He also admitted to handling the situation of fighting for his place in the team wrongly. He further revealed that him and Zlatan have been friends since that incident.
