El Confidencial have reported that Real Madrid’s manager, Zinedine Zidane, has made a “desperate” phone call to Paul Pogba, in a last ditch attempt to lure the Frenchman to the Spanish capital.

Following Real Madrid’s failure to capture Andre Gomes – who joined Barcelona this Thursday – it seems that Zidane is looking for an alternative, and even hoping to disrupt Manchester United’s negotiations.

Andre Gomes was set to sign for Real Madrid, but their fierce rivals, Barcelona, swooped in at the last minute and completed the €40 million signing of Andre Gomes – beating Real Madrid to the Euro 2016 winner.

According to El Confidencial, Zinedine Zidane has called Paul Pogba following his club’s failure to secure Andre Gomes’ services.

It is believed that Pogba initially preferred the Real Madrid switch, although Zidane had thought the player was too pricey.

It seems now that Zidane is willing to sign the Frenchman, although Pogba is already in advanced talks with Manchester United – who have agreed to pay a record-breaking €120 million for his return.

The report described the phone call that Zidane made to Pogba as follows:

“A last desperate telephone call…with each man seemingly wanting the player to end up at Madrid, and urging the other to do what they can to help that happen.”

However, Real Madrid’s president – Florentino Perez – isn’t too keen on Paul Pogba, as he believes that the transfer fee is too high – even for a player as good as Paul. Perez is also not keen on dealing with Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola.

Manchester United’s manager, Jose Mourinho, refused to give an update on the situation surrounding Paul Pogba, but news outlets around the world have all but confirmed the return of Paul Pogba to Manchester United.
