Bastian Schweinsteiger’s Future In Doubt If Pogba Arrives

Jose Mourinho is looking to trim his squad down to only 22 players. It is believed that Bastian Schweinsteiger, and many others, will soon be packing their bags.

As Manchester United edge closer to completing a deal with Paul Pogba, Mourinho will have to begin thinking about his final squad for the upcoming season. United have already secured the signatures of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimović, and Eric Bailly.

With the imminent arrival of Paul Pogba, the Manchester United midfield selection will be saturated with all sorts of midfielders. Bastian Schweinsteiger is believed to be one of the first players who will be sent packing.

The German captain has suffered various injury problems, and hasn’t been in the best of form during his United career. Michael Carrick, Morgan Schneiderlin, Marouane Fellaini, and Ander Herrera have been picked over the former Bayern Munich man.

Bastian joined Manchester United last year, signing a three-year deal with the Red Devils. Louis Van Gaal paid a total of £6.6 million for the German maestro. Schweinsteiger currently has 2 years left on his contract, but it looks like his time at Old Trafford is up. He has only played 18 matches for United, scoring a goal in the process.

Manchester United bought Bastian from the now Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola. The Spanish manager claimed that Schweinsteiger hasn’t been fully fit for the past three years, as the German midfielder has suffered recurring knee problems.

Marcos Rojo is another player who has an unclear future under Jose Mourinho. United have rebuffed their defense lineup with the £30 million signing of Eric Bailly from Villarreal, meaning that the competition for a spot in the back four has just become much tougher.

Another defender who faces the axe from Mourinho is Matteo Darmian. The Italian hasn’t made quite the impact that was expected from him, with Louis Van Gaal opting for youth players in Darmian’s position.

Memphis Depay has also made his future at the club doubtful, after his shoddy performance during Manchester United’s pre-season match against Borussia Dortmund. The Dutch winger has not lived up to his number 7 shirt number, although there has been much hype about the relationship between Mourinho and Depay.
