With a world-record move for Payet’s France team mate Paul Pogba all but done, United look set to swoop the West Ham star as the Mourinho revolution gets under way.
They may face stiff competition from Seria A side Inter Milan, however, whose new Chinese owners are keen to flex their financial muscle in the transfer market.
Payet was the star of the show for West Ham last season. He made 37 appearances for the Hammers, scoring 12 goals and clocking up 12 assists.
His incredible form for his club made it impossible to leave him out of France’s Euro 2016 squad, and he didn’t disappoint. He took the tournament by storm, making 7 appearances and scoring 3 goals and assisting 2 in the process.

Payet is also currently seen as one of the best strikers of a dead ball across Europe, scoring 6 free-kicks in all competitions last season.
The signing of Pogba means United would have fulfilled Mourinho’s 4 primary wishes- a central defender, a central midfielder, a striker and a creative midfielder. However, the chance to sign Payet may be too good to turn down for the Red Devils, as they look to reclaim their status as the biggest club in England.
