Eric Bailly Reveals Why He Snubbed Manchester City

Manchester United new boy Eric Bailly has revealed that he picked the Red Devils over their rivals Manchester City based on Didier Drogba’s opinion.

Eric Bailly was the first of Manchester United’s summer signings this season. He arrived from Villarreal for £30 million and was followed by Zlatan Ibrahimović and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The 22-year-old Ivorian stated that his fellow countryman, Didier Drogba, always spoke about Jose Mourinho while the pair were together during national duty. He also revealed that Jose Mourinho personally called him to finalize the transfer.

Bailly also mentioned Yaya Toure’s attempt to convince him to join the Citizens, but he opted for a move to the Red Devils.

“I signed for United because I like Mourinho, as simple as that.

“I wanted to play for someone who works very hard. I didn’t speak to Pep Guardiola but the ‘second’ manager called me and Mourinho called me as well.

“He said come and play for me. I prefer Mourinho, in part because of Didier Drogba, who Mourinho worked with.

“I have played with Didier in the Ivory Coast, he is a friend and he told me, ‘Jose did this for me, Jose did that for me’.

“Yaya also called me and said come to City. But once Jose spoke to me and Didier gave me advice, I knew straight away I wanted to play for him.”

Eric Bailly is quickly rising up the football ranks, following his debut in La Liga. The young Ivorian made over 50 appearances in Spain, and played against the best players in the world – Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi.

The center-back is badly needed in the Manchester United squad, as they lack defensive power at the moment. He is looking to nail down a spot in the Manchester United first team. and is keen to follow in the footsteps of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, his predecessors.
