Leroy Sane Signs For Manchester City In £37 million Deal

Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Leroy Sane from Schalke for £37 million on a five-year contract.

Sane becomes City’s sixth signing of this summer, and the 20-year-old will wear the No. 19 shirt for the club. New manager Pep Guardiola rates Sane very highly, and the German international too, confirmed that the opportunity to work under the Spanish coach was a major factor in his decision to move to the Etihad.

Sane said: “One of the reasons I chose to join City was Pep Guardiola.

“He convinced me to come here and that I can continue to progress. I know I will learn a lot under him and now I can take the next step in my career.

“I followed Pep at Barcelona and at Bayern where he achieved a lot and worked really well young players. I think he can make me a more complete player.”

Many young players have come to the Premier League with lots of expectations, but have failed to live up to their billing due to the struggles of adapting to a new league and a new country. Sane believes he too, will need some time to settle, but believes he can adapt very quickly.

“I think I will need a bit of time to start with because it’s another league and there’s a different style of play but I think I can adapt very quickly.”

Sane made his breakthrough at Schalke last season, and is seen as one of the top emerging talents in Europe. He made 42 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit last year, scoring nine goals. His impressive form for his club led to a call up to Germany’s national squad, and he capped off a brilliant breakthrough season with a place in the national team’s squad at Euro 2016.

Guardiola believes Sane is a quality player and will only improve with time.

Speaking about his new signing, he said: “He is a special talent, and an exciting player that I think our supporters will enjoy watching.

“He has great technical ability, is comfortable on the ball and there is so much to admire about the way he plays football. He is fast, enjoys creating chances for others, works hard for the team and scores goals, too. He also has a very positive attitude and will fit in well with our squad.

“At 20, he is still developing as a player but he is already a member of the German national side and I think he will be a fantastic asset to our club. We are very happy he decided to join us.”
