According to reports in Italy, Paul Pogba has landed in Manchester in order to complete his medical, ahead of his world-record move to Manchester United.

Respected Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport has claimed the French midfielder flew to England in the afternoon, and will undergo a medical tomorrow.

He was enjoying his holidays in America, while his agent Minor Raiola and Manchester United were working behind the scenes in order to finalise the finer details of a world-record £100 million transfer for the 23-year-old.

The Pogba to United transfer embargo has been the saga of the summer, and it looks set to finally reach its conclusion once the medical is completed.

Earlier today, Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri was adamant that he is still a Juventus player, and that he had summoned the French midfielder to training on Monday.

Allegri said: “Mourinho rightly says he’s not talking about Pogba because he’s a Juventus player.

“I’ve summoned Pogba together with [Patrice] Evra [to report for preseason duty] tomorrow night, so that means he has training here in Vinovo on Monday.

“It makes no sense at the moment talking about potential replacements for Pogba because, right now, Pogba is a Juventus player.”

If there is any truth to these latest developments, Jose Mourinho, who said he was confident about wrapping up the deal, will be left disappointed.

Jose said in his press conference ahead of United’s game against Leicester City in the Community Shield that he is definitely going to sign a midfielder, and that the deal should be wrapped up before the start of United’s Premier League campaign away at Bournemouth.

He dropped the biggest hint about the deal being close to conclusion in the press conference, saying: “Pogba is a Juventus player until officially he isn’t. It stays like this.”
