Axel Witsel Rejects Move To Merseyside In Favour Of Juve

Everton and Liverpool were believed to be eyeing a move for Axel Witsel, but the Italian media believe that he would rather prefer a switch to Juventus.

Juventus are currently planning for a future without their dynamic midfielder, Paul Pogba, and it seems they have identified Axel Witsel as the perfect candidate to fill in the gap in midfield.

Witsel currently plays for the Russian side, Zenit Saint Petersburg, and has stirred up interested from many of Europe’s top clubs, including Liverpool and Everton.

But, reports from Italy claim that the Belgian doesn’t favor a move to the Premier League, and would instead like to join the reigning Italian Champions.

Galatasaray Looking To Sign Manchester United Duo

The Bianconeri sold their star midfield man to Manchester United after what has to be one of the longest transfer sagas in the history of football. Pogba is already in Manchester, and is expected to complete his medical shortly.

United have agreed to pay a world-record £112 million to secure the Frenchman’s services – most of which Juventus have reportedly used to complete Gonzalo Higuain’s signing from Napoli.

However, the Italians would have no problems in paying good money for Witsel, but reports state that a bid has not yet been placed for 27-year-old.

Witsel seems the right man to help the Italians continue their dominance in the Serie A, and could possibly help them in the Champions League.

He just recently arrived in Zenit after his extended summer holiday. Axel played all of Belgium’s five matches during the Euro 2016 tournament, in which they were surprisingly knocked out by Wales in the quarter-finals.

Witsel has made over 150 appearances in his last four seasons with Zenit, scoring 21 times. He is usually played in central midfield, and is known to prefer joining the attack, with his pace and strength allowing him to cover most of the pitch, and also help out the back four.
