Marcos Rojo Interests French Giants AS Monaco

Marcos Rojo is believed to be on his way out of Manchester this summer, with AS Monaco keen on signing the Argentine defender.

Jose Mourinho is currently in the middle of a total squad overhaul, and reports claim that he sees no place for the former Sporting Lisbon defender.

Mourinho is reportedly planning to sell Rojo in order to make space for a new, more experienced defender, and Jose Fonte is believed to be high on Mourinho’s list of targets.

The sale of Rojo would also help fund the new transfer, after the Manchester United board informed Mourinho that any new signings will have to be funded by selling current players.

United have already signed a defensive option this summer – Eric Bailly. But Mourinho isn’t satisfied with his available options, as Chris Smalling is currently the oldest and most experienced centre-backs he can call upon.

Mourinho has experimented with his squad defensive lineup this pre-season, and seems to have found Daley Blind as a potential candidate to partner with Eric Bailly or Chris Smalling.

The Special One was initially looking to sign Southampton’s skipper, Jose Fonte, and AS Monaco fullback, Fabinho. However, fresh reports claim that Mourinho will not make any further additions this summer unless a player leaves.

If the departure of Marcos Rojo is finalized, then Mourinho can go ahead and make the necessary replacements, with Fonte being the most likely recruit.

Rojo has been valued at €12 million, but most clubs have refused to sign the Argentine due to his high wage demands.

He joined Manchester United in 2014, but failed to establish himself as a first-team defender. His performances have been below par, but that could be due to the fact that he was usually played in a full-back position, as opposed to his preferred center-back spot.
