James Wilson Joins Derby County On A Loan Deal

James Wilson has agreed to join Derby County on a loan deal.

The Englishman has represented England in the U16, U19, U20 and U21 levels.

Born in Biddulph, Staffordshire,Wilson was first scouted by English giants Manchester United at the young age of 7. He came through the club’s youth academy, and made his first appearance for the under-18s as a 14-year-old in a friendly against Slovak side Tatran Presov on 31st October, 2010.

He made his competitive debut for the U18s against West Bromwich Albion on 5th February, 2011. He made a further three league appearances for the team during the 2010–11 season, scoring in the third, a 2–1 home defeat to Everton.

On 6th May, 2014, James Wilson was handed his first team debut by interim manager Ryan Giggs. He scored two goals in a 3-1 win against Hull City at Old Trafford.

Wilson’s first goal of the 2014-2015 season came on 17th January 2015, when he came on as a substitute for Northern Ireland defender Jonny Evans and scored in added time at the end of a 2–0 win at Queens Park Rangers.

In the 2015-16 season, Wilson’s chances to get game time looked bleak, and was sent out on loan to Brighton and Hove Albion. He had an underwhelming loan spell, scoring 5 goals in 28 appearances.

And with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, and Marcus Rashford being the main choices to play as a striker at present, it doesn’t look like Wilson would get many chances to play.

Looking at this, a loan deal has been agreed with Derby County FC.

Manager Nigel Pearson was pleased with the signing.

He said: “We’re delighted to have agreed to bring James Wilson on a season-long loan. I hope that this loan deal will prove to be mutually beneficial for all parties and I would like to place on record our thanks to Manchester United for allowing James to join us. He is an energetic player who will add to our existing attacking options.”

Hopefully for Manchester United and their fans, Wilson will have a successful loan spell, and will return to contend for a first team spot at Old Trafford.
