Gabriel Barbosa Expresses Desire To Play Alongside Neymar

Barbosa has revealed that he would be open to the idea of joining his International teammate Neymar at Barcelona.

The pair played together in the Brazilian national squad that won gold in the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Gabigol, Gabriel Barbosa’s nickname, is expected to make a decision on his future, after the teenager has been linked with a host of high-profile clubs this summer, including Barcelona, Manchester United, Inter Milan, and Atletico Madrid.

The 19-year-old has admitted that he was completely focused on winning gold at the Rio 2016 Olympics, and hasn’t put much thought as to whether he will stay with Santos or move to Europe.

Manchester United appeared to be front-runners in the race for Barbosa’s signature, with Leicester City and Arsenal also considering the teenager.

Juventus and Inter Milan have also expressed their interest for Barbosa, with Santos President, Modesto Romo, having confirmed that Inter have already lodged a €40 million bid for the Brazilian.

Meanwhile, in Spain, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are both looking for Gabigol’s signature.

The Catalans, who are interested in bringing in an attacker this year, will be happy to hear the Barbosa is keen on playing alongside his Brazilian compatriot, Neymar.

“Up until now, I haven’t really had the time to think about anything because my attention was completely on the Olympics,” Barbosa stated, as quoted by The Sun.

“Now I will celebrate with my family, then I will return to Santos and think about what I should do.”

When Barbosa was asked whether he would be open to the idea of playing alongside Neymar, he responded:

“He is a great player and playing alongside him would truly be beautiful.”

Barbosa has been in magnificent form for his club and country, having scored 21 goals during his previous season with Santos.
