Manchester United Interested In Gabriel Barbosa

According to England based media outlet Daily Mirror, Manchester United are interested in signing Brazilian starlet Gabriel Barbosa.

Gabriel Barbosa, who is also known as Gabigol, plays as a forward as well as a winger for Santos in the Brazilian League. He has 56 goals in 152 appearances for the club.

Barbosa was a part of the Brazilian team which recently won the gold medal in the freshly concluded Rio Olympics. Newly appointed Manchester United manager José Mourinho is said to be a fan of him.

Modesto Roma, Santos’ president, has said that despite the reported interest from Manchester United, the only clubs to have submitted formal bids are Inter Milan and Juventus.

He said: “The only real offers come from Juventus and Inter. Now it depends on Gabriel. Santos don’t have to accept or refuse, the clauses for a move are in his contract and the club will respect them.”

In an interview given after the Olympics triumph, Barbosa said that he hasn’t been thinking about a potential transfer, as he was busy focusing on the Olympics. He said that he’ll be only focusing on his future now.

He was quoted as saying:

“Up until now, I haven’t really had the time to think about anything because my attention was completely on the Olympics.

“Now I will celebrate with my family, then I will return to Santos and think about what I should do.”

Santos president Modesto Roma was spotted in London with Manchester United officials, but he insists that the meeting wasn’t to discuss transfers.

He said: “We had productive conversations. We didn’t come to buy or sell players, neither in London or Madrid. We came to build up relationships.”

With the competition for a starting berth in both forwards and winger departments, should Gabriel Barbosa join Manchester United?
