Aguero Could Miss Manchester Derby For Elbow On Winston Reid

Pep Guardiola may be forced to go into his first Manchester Derby without his best player, as Sergio Kun Aguero awaits a decision from the FA regarding an elbow on Winston Reid.

Manchester City faced off against West Ham and comprehensively beat their London opponents in a 3-1 win, with two goals from Raheem Sterling and a strike from Fernandinho sealing the tie.

However, the incident between Aguero and Reid – in which the 28-year-old striker was seen elbowing the New Zealand defender – was caught on camera, and should referee Andre Marriner confirm that he did not see the off the ball affair, the Argentinian could be suspended for three games, meaning he would miss the top of the table clash against neighbours Manchester United on the 10th of September.

The suspension would be particularly worrying for City manager Pep Guardiola, who faces old rival Jose Mourinho in a mouth-watering clash for the first time since the pair locked horns at Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.

“I’m new here, so I don’t know how it works. I didn’t see, so I cannot comment,” Pep said.

“Hopefully nothing happens. If it happens, we accept it and adapt. If we lose him, we lose him. We are going to play with 11.”

Reid was substituted after the clash, and West Ham captain Mark Noble said after the match that the defender could not talk in the dressing room.

“I didn’t see it, to be honest,” said Noble.

“I didn’t know what it was about. I know he couldn’t talk in there. He said it was because he had got something in the throat.”

The upcoming Manchester Derby looks set to be the most appealing game between the two sides in recent years, with both club making major world-class changes in both management as well as playing staff.

United have splashed the cash this summer, sealing a world-record deal for the return of Paul Pogba, along with the arrivals of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly. City, on the other hand, have made huge changes to their squad, signing John Stones and Claudio Bravo, amongst other star players.
