Chelsea Chasing Former Defender David Luiz

Chelsea are attempting to re-sign former defender David Luiz for £30 million from PSG, according to Sky Sports’ sources.

Luiz left Stamford Bridge for PSG only two years ago, for a fee of £50 million – record fee for a defender.

However, Chelsea are now reportedly determined to re-sign the Brazilian defender, and will try to persuade the French Champions to sell him for a £20 million loss on what they paid the London club for the defender’s services in 2014.

The 29-year-old was subject to stern criticism this week, after he gave away a penalty in PSG’s 3-1 defeat to Monaco, and was taken of by manager Unai Emery.

Chelsea believe new manager Antonio Conte can get the best out of the funky haired defender – often compared to The Simpsons’ character Sideshow Bob – as the Italian sees him as a perfect fit for the team.

Luiz joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2011 on the transfer deadline day of the January window, with Nemanja Matic going the other way.

He went on to make 143 appearances for the Blues, also managing to score 12 goals. He won the UEFA Champions League and FA Cup double in his first full season with the club, and also won the UEFA Europa League in the 2012-2013 season.
