Cristiano Ronaldo Could Move To Barcelona, Says Figo

Former Real Madrid and Barcelona player Luis Figo has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo could sign for rivals Barcelona.

Ronaldo recently won the European Player of the Year award after having an excellent season, wherein he won the Champions League with Real Madrid and also the Euros with Portugal.

The Portuguese attacker scored a massive 35 goals for Real Madrid in the league, and also notched up 11 assists in 36 appearances. He was the top scorer in the Champions League, scoring 28 times and assisting  7 this season from a total of 19 games played.

Ronaldo’s former Portugal teammate Luis Figo had famously, or rather infamously, signed for Real Madrid in 2000 after the Madrid giants triggered his buyout clause of £37.2m at Barcelona.

Figo now insists that this could repeat if Barcelona decide to trigger Ronaldo’s massive buyout clause of €1.5 billion [£1.25bn].

In a recent interview with Portuguese media outlet Record, stated: “We are in a free market. If there is a termination clause, anything can happen.”

Talking of his own move from Barcelona 15 years ago, he added: “The first reason was for Real was the recognition by the president of Real Madrid. So things were getting more serious and I received the offer and I reported it [to Barcelona] with a view to improving my contract.”

It would be really great for football fans across the globe to see Ronaldo and Messi playing on one side, but the huge €1.5 billion release clause makes it pretty difficult to imagine that the two could play at the same club.
