Messi Has A Contract Forever, Says Barcelona President Bartomeu
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has stated that Lionel Messi has no limit to his Barcelona contract, and can stay at the club ‘forever’.
Messi is currently 29, and is not getting any younger. However, he remains arguably the best player in the world at the moment, and still has quite a few years left in him.
Bartomeu believes the Argentine is the best player to have ever played the game, and has declared that Messi knows he has no time limit to his contract at the club.
Messi’s current contract with the Catalan club expires in June 2018. He has been heavily linked with a switch to Manchester City after the arrival of Pep Guardiola, and also with a return to his first football club, Newell’s Old Boys.
In a recent interview, the five-time Ballon D’Or winner stated that a return to the place where it all began for him would be something he would ‘love to do’.

However, he has also stated in the past that he intends to finish his career at Barcelona, and Bartomeu confirmed that the player can stay as long as he wishes.
“[Messi] has all the years he wants [with Barcelona]. Lionel Messi is the best ever to play football in the history of the world and he plays with us,” he told ESPN FC in an exclusive interview.
“We are very happy, he is very important for the club, he’s very important for the fans, he’s very important for football itself.

“And Lionel Messi in the next coming months of course we are going to talk with him because he knows, he already knows that he has a contract forever. There is not a limit with him. The limit will be decided by him and right now he is 29 years old, he is talented, he is ambitious, and he’s in perfect shape to continue for many more years.”
“For now, we think we will do it in the next coming months, but Leo Messi will continue in Barcelona, of course.”
