Manchester United finally got up and running in the Europa League last night, by securing their first European win of the season over minnows Zorya Luhansk. Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored the only goal of the game – which was otherwise far from eventful.
Here’s how the Manchester United players fared in front of their Ukrainian opposition:
Sergio Romero: 6
The Argentine goalkeeper did not have much to do in the span of 90 minutes, but he did make a crucial save to ensure the Red Devils maintained their clean sheet.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah: 6
The Dutchman started the game well, and was decent going forward. However, he remained very vulnerable on the counter throughout the game, until he was subbed off for Ashley Young.
Eric Bailly: 7
The former Villareal man continued to impress, and put on a solid and commanding display at the back, despite picking up a Yellow Card.
Chris Smalling: 5.5
United’s captain on the night, the Englishman had a quiet game, but contributed well to help the team keep a clean sheet nonetheless.
Marcos Rojo: 4.5
Arguably the worst performer for Manchester United on the night. Failed to stop Zorya players numerous times, proving how much the team misses Luke Shaw in the process.

Marouane Fellaini: 5
The Belgian failed to do anything notable on the pitch, with a majority of his passes going backwards. Probably not the best of choices to partner Paul Pogba in central midfield, especially with the likes of Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick on the bench.
Paul Pogba: 6
The world record signing had a decent game, and showered some amazing long passes all over the pitch.
Jesse Lingard: 5
Pogba’s dab partner had a quiet game as well. He did manage to get two decent scoring chances, but failed to convert by finishing poorly.
Juan Mata: 8
Mata was phenomenal yet again in the #10 role. Created some decent chances by picking the right passes, and his movement was terrific. Easily the Man of the Match on the night.
Marcus Rashford: 7.5
The kid does not know how to have a bad game. The 18-year-old was impressive, and threatened the opposition defence many times. Almost came close to open the scoring for United, but was unlucky to hit the crossbar with his thundering strike.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic: 7
Scored the only goal of the game, but put in a good performance otherwise as well, by dropping back and trying to influence the game.
Substitutes:
Ashley Young: 5.5
Came on for Fosu-Mensah, and was quite a capable substitute for the Dutchman at the back.
Anthony Martial: 6
Managed to win United a free-kick whilst troubling the Zorya defenders on the right.
Wayne Rooney: 6
Mishit a clear goal scoring opportunity, but the ball luckily fell in front of Zlatan, who managed to convert it and make it 1-0.
