Bonucci And Fabregas To Be Involved In A Swap Deal
Leonardo Bonucci and Cesc Fabregas are set to be involved in a swap deal next summer, according to The Sun.
Chelsea have been lacking a reliable leader at the back, and have therefore, endured a difficult start to the season. They have already conceded 9 goals in the 7 Premier League games they have played so far, and currently sit 7th in the table.
In order to solve these defensive problems, new manager Antonio Conte is reportedly looking for experienced defenders in the market. And as per the Telegraph, the Blues have identified Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci as their prime transfer target.
The Italy international was linked with several Premier League clubs this summer, but no move materialized, as Juve weren’t ready to let go of any more of their star players following Pogba’s world record transfer to Manchester United.
Bonucci too, has stated that he has no intention of leaving the Turin club any time soon. However, with the arrival of Mehdi Benatia, the Italian’s future at the club isn’t completely secure anymore.
If Chelsea are to lure the center-back to London, they will have to meet Juventus’ demands and cough up a massive €60 million for the 29-year-old’s services.
But as per the latest reports, Chelsea are planning to decrease the amount of money they will have to pay for Bonucci, by including star midfielder Cesc Fabregas in the deal.
Fabregas currently finds himself out of favour at Chelsea, and is surplus to Conte’s requirements. The Spanish midfielder has started just one Premier League game under the Italian tactician, and looks set to head out the exit door the first chance he gets.
The London club will therefore offer him to the reigning Serie A Champions, so as to ease Bonucci’s path in the opposite direction.
Fabregas would be a terrific addition to the Juventus midfield, and he could very well go on to fill the massive void left by Andrea Pirlo in the middle of the park.
