Galatasaray Hand A 14-Year-Old His Senior Team Debut

Mustafa Kapi, a 14-year-old footballer, shocked the entire world earlier today, by making his senior team debut for Galatasaray in a 2-0 win over Levski Sofia.

The Turkish giants traveled to Bulgaria on Saturday to play an exhibition game against Levski Sofia, amidst the international break for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

But since many Galatasaray players were on international duties to represent their respective nations, club coach Jan Olde Riekerink gave some reserves and youngsters a chance to impress in the friendly.

However, Riekerink did the unexpected, by handing a 14-year-old kid his senior team debut in the game.

During the 88th minute of the match, the boss sent on Mustafa Kapi – a midfielder who was born in the year 2002 – thereby shocking the entire world.

Kapi joined the Galatasaray academy three years ago, from his hometown team Denizlispor. He has since been playing for the club’s youth team, and has earned plaudits for his talents from around the country.

As a box-to-box midfielder who is perfectly capable of scoring beautiful long range goals, he has also been repeatedly compared with the likes of Paul Pogba.

The youngster turned 14 back in August. And now, just two months after his 14th birthday, he has become a worldwide sensation, despite only playing for a couple of minutes.

Here are some of the twitter reactions to his first team debut from around the world:
