Manchester United have begun preparations to sign Valencia midfielder Fran Villalba, according to his agent.

Fran Villalba currently plays for La Liga outfit Valencia CF, as a central midfielder. The 18-year-old made his senior debut for the club last season, under the management of Gary Neville.

The Spaniard’s brilliant movement and passing range are the key factors that impressed Neville during his time at the helm of the La Liga outfit. The Englishman therefore handed the youngster his debut in December 2015, in Valencia’s 2-0 win in the Spanish cup against third tier side Barakaldo.

Villalba has been dubbed as ‘the next David Silva,’ as his playing style is very similar to that of the Manchester City star.

Naturally, this had led to him attracting the interest of numerous top clubs from all around Europe. In fact, the Spain u17s international was linked with a potential switch to Liverpool in the past, but no transfer materialized.

And now, Liverpool’s arch-rivals Manchester United have begun eyeing the young midfielder, and they seem to have already surpassed the Anfield club in the race for his signature.

According to Villalba’s agent Vicente Forés, the Red Devils have already made contact with him regarding the player.

“[Manchester United made contact] with me. Just a contact to know his situation. They’re already aware,” Forés told Sport Witness.

However, he also added that Valencia wouldn’t sell their promising young starlet too easily, as he has a contract with the Spanish club that lasts until June 2021.

“I don’t know about Valencia but I reckon they will make it hard,” said the agent.
