Giggs Wants Real Madrid’s Modric
Ryan Giggs has admitted that he would love to see Luka Modric join Manchester United.
Giggs spent his entire career with the Red Devils, and even had a brief spell as interim manager before spending two seasons as Louis van Gaal’s assistant manager. He ended his 29-year association with the club at the beginning of the current season, deciding to reject Mourinho’s offer of a place in the Portuguese’s backroom staff.
Heralded as a club legend, Giggs became the game’s most decorated player at United, winning 23 major trophies with United – including 13 Premier League titles.
The Welshman is an ambassador for this year’s Champions League competition, with the blockbuster final set to take place in Cardiff next year.
Speaking at a UEFA press conference in Zagreb, Giggs was asked about which Croatian player he admired the most. He revealed his love for Real Madrid and former Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric, and admitted that he would love for the midfielder to move to Old Trafford.
“Croatia have great players and my current favourite is Modric – I would love him to join Manchester United,” he said.

However, Giggs’s hopes look set to be dashed, as Modric signed a new contract extension with Los Blancos this week. The midfielder was initially heavily linked with a switch to the Red Devils in 2012, before he decided to move to Spain. He has now signed a new four-year deal with the club, which will see him remain at the Bernabeu till at least 2020.
“I knew I had come to the biggest club in the world, where the demands are huge – I was prepared for that,” Modric said, speaking at a press conference announcing the deal.
“I didn’t start well but I never doubted, I knew I would succeed sooner or later.
“Today is a special day. I promise I’ll give everything and will work hard to match the club’s demands. I hope to have many more successes here.
“I hope this isn’t my last contract renewal. My wish and desire is to end my career at Real.”
