Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney and summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan have reportedly been dropped by Mourinho for his trip to Chelsea tomorrow, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Manchester United will play Chelsea tomorrow as Jose Mourinho returns to face his former club for the first time since he was sacked by the Blues last season.

However, it seems that Wayne Rooney was not seen with the rest of the Manchester United squad as they boarded their train at Stockport Station down to London on Saturday afternoon.

Rooney may have linked up with the squad at Macclesfield station, although the team were put through a training session at Carrington before departing from the station.

Wayne Rooney started Manchester United’s last match, against Fenerbahce, although that was his first start for the team this whole month.

The skipper has endured a difficult start to the season and has subsequently been dropped from Jose Mourinho’s starting eleven. He is only expected to start in non-league matches.

Manchester United summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan was also one of the players not seen with the squad, meaning that he may not be in contention for starting position tomorrow evening.

The Armenian, who is believed to be recovering from an injury, was also not included during Manchester United’s last match, against Fenerbahce. He has so far only featured in 5 matches for Manchester United, most of them coming as a second half substitute.

Dutch youngsters Memphis Depay and Timothy Fosu-Mensah were also absent from the team, according to the photographers.

Jose Mourinho is expected to field a defensive lineup tomorrow evening, similar to the one his deployed against Liverpool last week.
