Manchester United have contacted Real Madrid star Gareth Bale every summer for the last three years, hoping to eventually convince the Welsh wizard to move to the Theatre of Dreams.

According to well-known Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, the Red Devils have been chasing the 27-year-old since he left Tottenham Hotspur in 2013, by repeatedly contacting the player and his agent to find out his availability.

It is also a well-known fact, though, that Sir Alex Ferguson was very keen on signing Bale while he was still at Southapton as a teenage left-back.

Despite the Premier League club’s repeated failure to sign the player, Bale has still been persistently linked with a switch to Old Trafford. However, the Welshman has stated on several occasions that he intends to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu for the rest of his career.

Earlier this week, Bale put to bed – at least temporarily – all talks of him leaving the Los Blancos for England by signing a new six-year contract extension with the club, that will see him stay in the Spanish capital till 2022, by when he will be 33 years old.

Writing for Spanish news outlet AS, Guillem Balague, said: “Manchester United have called Bale every summer since he left Tottenham to try and convince him that the best league for him is in England. But he never doubted that what he wanted to do was to improve at Madrid, win space and territory in the team, and above all, triumph.

“It’s been almost two weeks since Bale signed his new contract with Real Madrid. The negotiations began back in February, and they weren’t complicated, just long.

“The player can feel the sensation of having got everything he wanted, including the possibility of spending the most important years of his career with what is considered one of the best clubs in the world.”
