Luke Shaw Aiming To Win Over Mourinho
Luke Shaw is determined to keep his head down and fight for his place at Manchester United – even though he is not convinced that his future lies with the club.
The full-back has come in for heavy criticism of late from United boss Jose Mourinho, who is reportedly unconvinced about the youngster.
Shaw was involved in a practise match against the club’s under-23 side, which featured a few of the other players who were not involved with their national sides during the international break, such as Michael Carrick, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Marcos Rojo, and Ashley Young. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was present, but did not take part in the game, which the seniors won 2-0.
The 21-year-old also posted a video of himself working hard in the gym on popular social media site Instagram, but as seen before with Memphis Depay, Mourinho isn’t too keen on what players post on their social media pages.
The 53-year-old Portuguese boss hit out at Shaw and Smalling following United’s 3-1 win over Swansea, when both players decided to pull out of the squad ahead of the match.
While it was revealed that Smalling had broken his toe in two places, Shaw had informed Mourinho before the game that he didn’t feel like he was ready to play, and this infuriated the manager.
“There is a difference between the brave, who want to be there at any cost, and the ones for who a little pain can make a difference,” Mourinho was quoted as saying after the game.
“If I were to speak with the many great football people of this team, they will say many times they played without being 100 per cent. For the team you have to do anything. That is my way of seeing.”
He added: “We have players with problems. To compete you have to go to the limit. It is cultural for some – and this is my culture. More than me, it is Man United.”
According to Daily Mail, Shaw has admitted to a few of is friends that he fears Mourinho does not see him in his long-term plans. However, the youngster is determined to fight for his place and earn Mourinho’s trust.
