The meme warriors are back – and they’ve brought heavy ammunition as well. Their prime target this time? None other than Cristiano Ronaldo.

The three-time Ballon D’Or winner should be used to this by now, as he has been targeted with memes referring to him as “Penaldo”, and others relating to his rivalry with Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

This time, though, Ronaldo finds himself being the laughing stock of the internet for a very different reason – his celebration after his second goal in the Madrid derby. The Portuguese star struck a brilliant hat-trick – the 39th of his career – in the 3-0 win over Atletico Madrid, but his celebration is what is catching all the headlines.

Ronaldo celebrated his first goal with his regular run and jump while yelling “Siii”. However, after putting away his penalty for his and the game’s second goal, he ran over to the cameras and crouched down while putting a finger on his chin in a sort of questioning pose.

Some believe the 31-year-old’s pose was aimed at the the media and reporters who have been on his back recently, criticising him for a poor start to the season. Others believe he was doing his own version of the mannequin challenge, while some called for the celebration to be added to FIFA 18 next year.

However, instead of deliberating over the meaning of the joke, the internet trollers got busy on photoshop. The results were hilarious – with some showing Ronaldo on top of a toilet seat, a few showing him thinking about his next move in a game of chess, another where he was getting ready to sumo wrestle, and even one where he was seated on top of Lionel Messi!

Ronaldo himself chose to look at the funny side of it all, and he was even mocked by his own son. Ronaldo Jr., with the help of his friends and his dad, recreated the pose, and the Portuguese superstar posted the image on Instagram with the caption: “The boys make fun of me!”
