Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos has confirmed that he wants to stay with the French Champions.

Marquinhos, in an interview with Telefoot, confirmed that he wishes to stay, and wants a contract extension at PSG. The Brazilian international joined Paris Saint-Germain back in 2013 from Roma.

Now in his fourth season at PSG, Marquinhos has developed himself into a world-class central defender. Since David Luiz’s return to Chelsea this summer, Marquinhos and Thiago Silva have been PSG’s main defenders at the back.

“This is my fourth year at PSG,” he told Telefoot.

“I have learned French and my family likes Paris, so I want to stay. I hope that I will extend but this does not depend only on me. It is on the right track, so we will see.”

PSG faced a shock defeat against Montpellier in Ligue 1, and are without a win in last three matches.

Speaking of the defeat, he told the club’s official website: “For a defender, it is always hard conceding goals, but we have to keep a cool head, keep working hard and do better next time.”

Marquinhos was a transfer target for various clubs in Europe, including the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona. United were considering a January move for an established central defender, and Marquinhos was rumoured to be their primary target.

At the same time, the Brazilian, who is also capable of playing at right back, was considered as a potential target for Spanish giants Barcelona. But his latest comments will now have handed them a major blow in their pursuit for his signature.

Despite all these rumours, Marquinhos has a contract with Paris Saint-Germain until 2019, and it is expected that he will be offered a new deal to extend his stay with the French champions.
