Victor Lindelof has a £30m clause in his current contract that can only be activated in the summer, but the Red Devils are keen to get their target in the upcoming January Transfer window.

Manchester United have been tracking the Benfica defender since months, and have now put up an offer of £34m on the table for their man, as per the Mirror.

United have been scouting the centre-back on a regular basis, visiting Benfica’s Stadium of Light this season time and again, and after his performance and contribution in the victory against Sporting Lisbon, the Red Devils made their interest official.

Mourinho is eager to propel his team into the top four as soon as possible, and has hence told Ed Woodward to look into this business deal immediately, in order to strengthen his squad.

Benfica will be facing Borussia Dortmund in the last 16 of the Champions League, and would be hesitant to let their defender go at such a crucial stage in their campaign.

Yet the Lisbon side could find it hard to turn down a huge offer for a player who only cost a nominal fee when he arrived from Swedish club Vasteras in 2011.

United are slowly and steadily heading towards their best, and after winning 3 matches on the spin, it might make sense for them to go all out and complete their squad in every department, and Victor might just be the way to do so.
