Liverpool Star Charged With Drunken Driving
Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has been charged with drunken driving after being pulled over on Christmas eve.
Firmino was arrested in the early hours of Christmas Eve after he was stopped by police while driving in Liverpool city centre. He is due to appear at Liverpool City Magistrates Court on January 31 – the same day Liverpool host Chelsea at Anfield.
The Reds signed the Brazilian from Hoffenheim on a five-year deal for about £29m in June last year. So far, he has enjoyed success at Anfield, scoring 17 goals from 67 games.
The Merseyside Police confirmed that the 25-year-old was arrested during the early hours of December 24. Their statement read: “Merseyside Police has charged a 25-year-old man with drink driving after his car was stopped in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of Saturday, December 24, 2016.”
It is understood that if Firmino is found guilty, he will have to face a driving ban and a fine.
The Reds are in the 3rd place in the Premier League table, with a game in hand. After 17 games this season, Liverpool have secured 37 points.
Even though he has been charged with drunken driving, Firmino will be available for the Premier League fixture with Stoke City on Tuesday.
