Eden Hazard Once Scored A ‘Drunken’ Hat-trick, Reveals Former Teammate
Lille captain Rio Mavuba has revealed that his former teammate Eden Hazard once scored a hat-trick whilst still under the influence of alcohol.
According to Mavuba, Hazard scored three goals in his final game at the French club Lille whilst still drunk from the night before.
From 2007 to 2012, Eden Hazard played for Lille and made a name for him in the football world. The young talent was identified by various clubs, but he later decided to move to London and join Chelsea.
He signed for the reigning Champions League winners in 2012, and is currently in his fourth season at Stamford Bridge, where the 25-year-old has developed into a world-class player.
While talking on SFR Sport last night, Rio Mavuba recalled Hazard’s final game for Lille.
“We were certain to finish third and we were facing Nancy the following day. It was Eden Hazard’s last match with Lille and he wanted to organise a little something,” Mavuba said.
“We decided to go have a little drink. A little drink that dragged on somewhat. The following morning, Eden was still drunk. That evening against Nancy, not even with 30 minutes played, Eden had already bagged a hat-trick.
“The guy had not even slept, he drank for the entire night and he put away a hat-trick in 30 minutes. We all looked at each other, we told ourselves that this guy was the real deal.”
Since moving to Chelsea in 2012, Hazard has won the Premier League title, and also the PFA Player of the Year award. He has also been arguably the best player in the league so far this season.
