According to reports in Portugal, Victor Lindelof has been given a Manchester United jersey number even before the official announcement of his transfer.

Lindelof has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for quite some time, and the defender is also reported to have played his final game for Benfica last week.

He joined the club in 2012, and has since played for both their youth and senior teams. The 2015-16 season was his breakthrough campaign, and he has already managed to play around 50 games for the Portuguese giants.

Reports in Portugal now suggest that Lindelof is all set to move to Manchester United in the January transfer window. A natural centre back by trade, the youngster has also played at right back for Benfica, and Mourinho expects him to provide more competition to Manchester United’s established back line.

The Sweden international has been on United’s radar since last summer, and Jose Mourinho is said to be an admirer of this player. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has also spoken about his fellow countrymen and the qualities he possesses.

The deal look set to be completed, and in fact, as per reports, the defender has already received a shirt number prior to the official announcement of his move.

Lindelof will reportedly be given the No.2 shirt at Manchester United, due to the fact that his current number (#14) is occupied by United’s academy graduate Jesse Lingard. Not a bad number to have at all, considering it was previously occupied by one of United’s all time greats: Gary Neville.
