Pep Guardiola is gearing to rival Jose Mourinho for Antoine Griezmann’s signature, according to a report from Manchester Evening News.

Griezmann is right now one of the hottest properties in European football and is consistently being linked with a mega-money summer move.

Manchester United are believed to be seeing the Frenchman as the heir to Wayne Rooney’s throne at Old Trafford.

But, M.E.N claim City boss Pep Guardiola is also keen to bring in the Atletico forward.

Griezmann topped the scoring chart at Euro 2016 and has served a key role in Atletico Madrid’s challenge to the big two in Spain.

The 25-year-old France international has netted six La Liga goals this season for Diego Simeone’s side as well as another three in the Champions League.

Griezmann, who is averaging a goal every other game for Atletico, is valued at around £70 million. Last week’s reports claimed that Manchester United had already initiated talks over a deal to sign him. And according to The Sun, United have contacted a ‘leading agent’ to secure the deal for the in-demand forward

Manchester City mainly rely on Sergio Aguero’s goal scoring hunger, with only youngster Kelechi Iheanacho in reserve, although Gabriel will be arriving in January.

Wilfried Bony was allowed to leave on loan to Stoke, which forced Guardiola to move Nolito, Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne into more advanced roles in some matches this season.

City now sit third in the Premier League, seven points behind leaders Chelsea, who have won 11 games in a row.

It is believed the City hierarchy will support Guardiola in every way possible to bolster his side across the next few transfer windows as the Spaniard is looking to transform the club into Champions League challengers.
