Everton Target Red Devils’ Star Defender
Ronald Koeman, current Everton boss, is reportedly interested in signing United defender Chris Smalling in the upcoming January transfer window, and is ready to tell the people who handle the business in the club to take a serious look into the possibility of such a deal.
According to the Daily Star, once Manchester United complete the imminent signing of Benfica defender Victor Lindelof, Smalling will be made available to leave, which presents a huge opportunity for other interested clubs to put their best offers on the table to take away the highly regarded English centre-back.
Mourinho has grown an evident liking for Victor and is desperate to bring the player to Old Trafford before the window shuts, thus opening the gates for Smalling’s possible exit.
Mourinho has off late preferred Rojo and Jones as his defensive pair, and with winning 6 matches continuously in the league, there are very slim chances of that changing.

Manchester United are currently flying high, but their table position hasn’t really altered with all the teams above them maintaining their form and keeping them 6th. On the other hand, Everton have had an up and down season so far, but have managed to stay 7th – one place and nine points behind the Red Devils.
Both Koeman and Mourinho are rebuilding their respective teams, and any transfer rumour is worthy of being noticed and considered possible.
Smalling has made 6 starts for Mourinho this season with an additional 3 substitute appearances, and with Koeman ready to strengthen his defence, a move might definitely be on the cards and soon ready to happen.
