One of the most shocking transfer stories from last summer was that of Renato Sanches, as the former Benfica academy graduate stunned the football world when a move was all but confirmed with Manchester United, but he instead signed for Bayern Munich.

The Euro 2016-winning Portuguese youngster received offers from both clubs towards the end of last season. Throughout that summer transfer window, Manchester United were actually convinced they had secured the services of Europe’s best young talent, but when Bayern Munich announced a £30 million deal which could rise to £68m, everybody was shell-shocked.

The Bavarians have already disclosed the secret as to how they pounced on the advantage of United’s managerial crisis to hijack the Benfica starlet’s Old Trafford move.

And now, the player himself has admitted that it was an quite easy decision for him to choose Bayern when they came calling, especially due to the way in which the Bundesliga champions showed full confidence in him.

Sanches said: “I had a good feeling about it right away when I heard about Bayern Munich’s interest.

“They really put in a lot of effort and I immediately got a feeling the people in charge believed in me as a player. That was the decisive factor behind my decision to join Bayern.

“Ancelotti always looks calm and in charge. You can just see he has a lot of experience. He is getting involved with his players a lot and is helping players to make individual progress.

“But I am also playing alongside a lot of world-class players here. I can learn from all of them, especially from the players who play in midfield like Arturo Vidal, Xabi Alonso and Thiago Alcantara.”

Sanches has started only four Bundesliga fixtures since joining from Benfica. He has failed to score in 15 appearances across competitions, and only completed the full 90 minutes on a single occasion.
