It’s pretty safe to suggest that Manchester United are in no mood to sell Ander Herrera to Barcelona this January. Still, rumours will fly, just like this piece!

Herrera is definitely a brilliant asset for Jose Mourinho, which is why United have reportedly slapped a massive price tag for the Spanish midfielder. But €70 million transfer fee! It’s ridiculous.

According to some unconfirmed reports from Spain, Barcelona expressed their interest in Herrera, but were forced to turn off by the price. Those same reports further suggest Barcelona might include Ivan Rakitic as a makeweight to sweeten the deal for Herrera.

The Croatian midfielder has currently fallen a bit out of favour with Luis Enrique, and has been a rumoured January transfer target for Manchester City. Yes, he has all the talent to succeed at United, but the question is where he’d fit into Mourinho’s team.

Also, there is a huge uncertainty as to whether Barcelona would value Herrera ahead of Rakitic. It’s true, the Spaniard is a bit younger and more athletic, but Rakitic no doubt possesses more skill. The Croatian midfielder could easily fetch the La Liga giants a transfer fee of more than £40 million if he decides to leave this month.

United probably earmarked Barcelona’s rumoured interest and slapped an unbelievable price tag on Herrera to scare away the Spanish champions. They can’t actually expect the Catalan giants to stump that sort of fee for the 27-year-old.

The season is in full swing, and many times, the clubs are as guilty as the media. Herrera has definitely proven his class in Manchester United’s midfield – and is now a vital cog and a firm fan favourite at Old Trafford. So why would Jose Mourinho even think of letting go the Spaniard?

So, in Blamefootball’s opinion, this latest report is nothing but a crazy transfer rumour flying around during the transfer window. But if you want to enjoy, then better add a pinch of salt!
