Reus A Potential Replacment For Sanchez
Arsenal are looking at Marco Reus as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez, who has not yet signed an extension to his contract at the Emirates, which expires in June 2018.
Even after a month of talks, Sanchez hasn’t agreed to new terms. If this log-jam continues, the Gunners will look to cash in on the Copa America winner instead of letting him leave for free. In that case, according to WhoScored, Arsenal will look to lure Marco Reus from Borussia Dortmund.
The report also speculates that Reus will be offered £6.8m a year in a five-year deal. His transfer value is reportedly£50.9m.
The German international has been affected by injuries off-late though. As a result, he has featured only five times this season in the Bundesliga. Yet, his direct contribution to 4 goals in these appearances show how big of an impact he is.
Sanchez has been highly influential for Arsenal. His 59 goals in 3 seasons is testament to that. Along with Mesut Ozil, he is one of the players the team can always look to rely upon.
One of the very few players of such high caliber as the Chilean is Marco Reus. The German has scored 80 goals in 5 seasons for Borussia Dortmund, while assisting and setting up many more. Also notable is the fact that he has missed a sizeable number of matches in this period.
Even though this is a direct pointer to his influence, Arsene Wenger would be worried by his injury record.
Reus had to miss the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Euros due to fitness issues. Arsenal too are hit by injuries every season, derailing their campaign. Therefore, signing up Reus would be a big gamble.
