Herrera Tips David De Gea To Surpass Schmeichel And Van Der Sar At United
Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has tipped his fellow teammate David De Gea to surpass the club’s former legendary goalkeepers Peter Schmeichel and Edwin Van Der Sar.
De Gea has been an absolutely crucial member of the Manchester United squad for many years now, despite having started his life in England rather shakily. Consistent improvement has seen the Spaniard develop into one of the world’s best goalkeepers at present, if not the best.
And naturally, his talents have attracted the interest of numerous top clubs from all across Europe, with La Liga giants Real Madrid being the most recurrent interested party.
In fact, De Gea almost returned to the Spanish capital in the summer of 2015, but the transfer broke down at the final moments of the deadline day due to a faulty fax machine.
The 26-year-old has since committed his future to the Old Trafford outfit, and continues to save the day for United time and time again with his match-winning saves. And as per his fellow teammate Ander Herrera, De Gea could go on to achieve a legendary status at Manchester United if he stays at the Theatre of Dreams for a long time.
Speaking to Cadena Ser about the speculation surrounding David’s future, Ander Herrera stated (via MEN): “He has a good contract here and he is valued a lot by the fans. He is a calm person.
He is not anxious or in a hurry to make a change. We are winning titles and that helps. I don’t even consider the possibility that he could leave.”
The midfielder then added: “I want him to stay for many years and not just because he is my friend, but because there are not many goalkeepers that earn you points like he does.
If he continues here, he will become a club legend as Schmeichel and Van der Sar. I believe he can surpass them. I think he has that in his mind.”
